Product Photography and Mockup Prompts

Ready prompts for product scenes, studio surfaces and lifestyle backgrounds.

Short answer

The most important information in a product prompt is the light direction: the shadow in your own product photo and the light in the generated scene must agree. Also reserve the area where the product will sit — the phrase "empty space in the centre for a product" guarantees it.

In product imagery, AI's correct role is not generating the product but generating the world around it. The prompts below follow that logic: each builds a scene for the product to sit in and leaves that area empty.

After removing your own product photo's background, you place it onto one of these scenes. Watch that the light directions agree — that single detail determines believability.

8 prompts

Each prompt explains why it is written that way. Change the subject to suit you and leave the technical part as it is.

Minimal studio pedestal

minimal product photography backdrop, smooth stone pedestal centred on a seamless warm beige background, soft directional light from the upper left casting a gentle shadow to the lower right, empty space on the pedestal for a product, studio lighting, subtle gradient

Works well in these tools: flux, adobe-firefly, midjourney

Note: Stating the shadow direction is mandatory; it must match the shadow direction in your own product photo.

Kitchen counter lifestyle scene

cosy kitchen counter scene, worn oak surface, blurred window with soft morning light behind, a folded linen cloth and a sprig of rosemary at the edge of frame, generous empty space in the centre for a product, natural muted colours, shot on 50mm, shallow depth of field, no people

Works well in these tools: flux, adobe-firefly, leonardo-ai

Note: Adding "no people" matters; hands and faces are still the details that break most often in generations containing people.

Cosmetics water and stone scene

spa-like product scene, wet dark slate surface with shallow still water, a single smooth river stone, cool diffused light from directly above, faint mist, deep teal and charcoal palette, empty area in the foreground for a product, macro detail on water droplets

Works well in these tools: flux, midjourney

Note: Wet surfaces and water droplets are the standard visual language for establishing freshness in the cosmetics category.

Hard-shadow modern scene

contemporary product backdrop, flat sand-coloured surface, single hard light source from the right creating a long sharp geometric shadow, one vertical shadow of a window frame falling across the surface, high contrast, empty centre for a product, editorial minimalism

Works well in these tools: flux, midjourney, adobe-firefly

Note: Hard shadow has become the dominant language of modern product photography; the phrase "hard light source" produces it reliably.

Wooden flat lay

overhead flat lay on a warm walnut table, soft even daylight from a large window, a few scattered props at the edges - a folded napkin, a small ceramic dish, dried leaves - large empty area in the centre for a product, natural earthy palette, shot from directly above

Works well in these tools: flux, canva, leonardo-ai

Note: The phrase "shot from directly above" gives the flat-lay framing used most on social media.

Dark tech product scene

dark tech product backdrop, brushed dark metal surface, single cool rim light from behind creating an edge glow, deep shadows, subtle blue reflections, faint reflection on the surface below, empty centre for a product, premium electronics photography

Works well in these tools: flux, midjourney, stable-diffusion

Note: Describing the reflection on the surface strengthens the sense that the product sits in the scene.

Natural texture surface

close product surface texture, coarse natural linen fabric in undyed oatmeal tone, soft raking light from the left revealing the weave, shallow depth of field falling off towards the edges, empty centre, tactile organic feel, macro photography

Works well in these tools: flux, stable-diffusion

Note: "Raking light" strikes a surface at a very low angle and is the only lighting that makes texture visible.

Seasonal campaign scene

wide seasonal campaign background, autumn palette of rust amber and deep green, softly blurred foliage occupying the right third, warm low sunlight from the left, clean empty area on the left for headline text and a product, cinematic but uncluttered, 3:1 ratio

Works well in these tools: flux, adobe-firefly, leonardo-ai

Note: Wide banner ratios get cropped on mobile; keep key elements near the centre or generate the same scene a second time at 4:5.

Frequently asked questions

Can I describe my product in the prompt and generate it?

You can, but what comes out is not your product: label, packaging proportions and texture all differ. In e-commerce the image shown must accurately represent the product sold. The right route is shooting the product yourself and replacing its background with one of these scenes.

Why does my product look fake once placed in the scene?

Almost always because the light does not match. If the shadow in your product photo falls right, the scene's light must come from the left. There must also be a soft contact shadow where the product meets the surface; without it the image floats.

Which tool is best for product scenes?

Flux leads on photorealism. If you are a corporate brand that cannot carry legal risk, Adobe Firefly is a better fit — it is trained on licensed data and lets you edit the existing photograph directly in Photoshop.
